Nice to receive this picture from my fellow author, Emily A. Francis. Emily says this about my book, “This beautiful book really is the perfect gift for anyone who needs a daily reminder to embrace life! Filled with daily affirmations and explanations to lift your spirit and change the perspective. I recommend this to everyone who needs a pick me up and a reminder that life is a sacred gift that is meant to be treasured.” If you use Instagram, please give Emily a like or follow @emilyafrancisbooks.

The book helps celebrate Summer Solstice in Yorkton

Interesting day. I had laser treatments in both eyes this afternoon as glaucoma prevention. Meanwhile, outside the doctor’s office the street was closed for the summer solstice street festival. There, Laurie Renton was setting up her financial services booth. Laurie is an amazing advocate of my book. She gave copies to her clients as Christmas gifts last year, and presented one to best-selling author Robert Holden in Scotland this Spring. She had a draw at her booth, and a copy of my book was the prize. So grateful for this beautiful friend and encourager.

Best-selling author Robert Holden receives a copy of the book

I am delighted to report that a copy of my book has just been given to best-selling author Robert Holden at the Findhorn Community in Scotland. He received the book from reader Laurie Renton of Yorkton Saskatchewan. Laurie is a financial advisor and has already purchased 50 copies to give to clients.

Robert Holden is considered Britain’s foremost expert on happiness. He is the founder of the Happiness Project which runs an eight-week course annually. He is the author of 10 best-selling books including Loveability, Happiness NOW!, and Success Intelligence. He gives public lectures worldwide and holds public and corporate workshops and seminars for companies such as Dove, Virgin, The Body Shop and Unilever. He has been featured in two BBC documentaries, does a weekly talk radio show on Hay House Radio, and has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“This book has changed my life”

A few months ago I popped into a coffee shop in a small Saskatchewan town, just to grab a latte. A man sitting at a corner table noticed me, and as we made eye contact I recognized him as one of the people who’d bought a copy of the book last year during a book reading event. As we sat and chatted, he said something to me that literally brought a tear to my eye. He thanked me for writing the book and said, “This book has changed my life.”

I really needed that positive encouragement. Yes, even I, Kenneth James Kerr “The Encourager” needs to be on the receiving end of encouragement now and again. What that reader did not know is that I had become discouraged as an author after watching a video course by a big-name writer. This individual came right out and stated that every book must be extensively market tested, professionally edited several times, and have its layout and cover designed by design experts. He made it obvious that in his eyes any book not being produced in this way was not only worthless but also doomed to fail.

My book could boast none of these characteristics, and since I had gone to this man for expert advice on book marketing, my heart sank… as did my faith in my own work.

I literally ignored my book for months (that’s why I’ve been so silent on this web page!). I even began to wonder what other career I should pick instead of being an author. And then fate stepped in and I met this gentle soul at the coffee shop.

I told my unexpected encourager what had happened, and he softly said, “The first instant that he started to make you doubt your work, you should have walked away from that course.” He reminded me just how life-changing the book really is, JUST AS IT IS, and told me to keep on going with it because it is an amazing book.

And so I decided to try an experiment. With enough time having passed for me to be objective about it, I started to read my book as if I was a reader coming to it for the first time. I flipped through pages randomly over a month, made a note of the date at the top of the page, and wrote my own notes in each page, just as I had instructed others to do. Amazingly, I discovered synchronicity after synchronicity, as the book just randomly presented me with the right ideas at the right time. Many times my handwritten notes would end with, “This really IS life changing!”

Thank God for my encourager that day, and thank God for restoring my confidence in the beautiful book that I was honoured to have brought into form as moved by the silent inspiration of a source higher than myself. May the book be a blessing to you too.

The first TV show has now been taped

My thanks to host Peter Francks for having me on his show with Access Communications today. This was the first-ever Television appearance for “This Book is the Perfect Gift”, and it was a great experience. We arrived at the studio in Yorkton just before 10:00 a.m., and taping began about ten minutes later. The show lasted for one hour, and it was both informal and informative.

Not sure when it will air, but it might be at different dates and times across the Access television network. I will see if I can get a schedule as soon as possible, and then post it here and on Facebook. The show will be broadcast across the province of Saskatchewan. In the meantime, remember to check out the recording of the recent radio appearance too. It’s ready to play on-demand in the sidebar of this website, and in another newsblog post further down this page.

Listen to the first radio interview

As promised, here is the recording of the first radio interview for the book. You can listen to the audio by using the player below. The interview took place at THE ROCK 98.5 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and it was aired on Monday, October 16. Our thanks to the station for making this recording available. A link has also been placed in the sidebar for easy future reference.

A book returns “Home”

It’s the stuff that news stories are made of… In a stunning move of coincidence or synchronicity, a copy of “This Book is the Perfect Gift” has returned “home.” Let me explain.

In the above picture, you see a lifelong friend of mine, Iris Tinto, holding a just-delivered copy of the book. Iris is the Clinical Manager, and Accredited Psychotherapist at Corby Mind, a facility offering social, emotional and practical support for adults experiencing mental distress in the Corby area. This particular copy of the book will be added to the resource library in the building and made available as an encouragement to staff and clients alike.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. I was raised in Corby, Northamptonshire, England. And, I know the Corby Mind building very well. It used to be the manse for the Church of the Epiphany, and during my childhood I was friends with the son of the minister. Not only that, the building is located less than 200 feet from the very house I grew up in!

Who would ever have imagined, during those days of childhood play, that fifty years later a book with my name on it (written on the Canadian prairies) would reside in that very structure, with the intention to enlighten, enrich, and encourage people.
